Based on Haushka’s collaborative ambient album Upstream with Robert Macfarlene and Rob Petit, this design solution brings a poster and vinyl design that encapsulates the naturalistic sounds of the muddy mountains of Scotland and the quiet solace of the industrialisation of Scottish life.
Upstream is layered with sound and meaning, each track a different layer of the Scottish aura. This gave me the idea to use the multiple layers of a vinyl packaging to adhere to that idea. The top jacket is semi translucent with the muddy water mark makings, the sleeve holding the vinyl simply white with the corresponding title and text that align with the lines of water once layer on top another. And finally inside, a specially tinted beige vinyl, a merging of both the mud and white. The poster includes hand made muddy mark markings that create lines atop of a clean white slate. Big simple sans serif black type interlaces in between the mark going in and out of creating dimension.
